The Freedom Rides: Journey for Change
In 1961 the Congress of Racial Equality planned the Freedom Rides to integrate public transportation services throughout the South. The Freedom Riders wanted to test the Supreme Court ruling of Boynton v. Virginia (1960) that ruled unconstitutional segregation in interstate bus and rail transportation.
In this exercise you will choose whether to participate in the Freedom Rides. As events unfold you must make the choice to continue the journey or return home. Your goal is to integrate the stations and terminals throughout the South, although you know you will face major resistance ahead.
