Anniston, Alabama
You and your fellow riders continue the ride, encountering violence and hatred along the way. When you arrive in Atlanta, the Freedom Riders split into two groups and the first departs for Alabama despite rumors of intense violence ahead. On May 14, 1961, your bus enters the city limits of Anniston, Alabama. At the station the bus is attacked by an angry mob of 200 who slash the tires on the bus and set fire to it. The Riders are beaten when they climb from the burning bus and are taken to a local hospital.
