At noon Wednesday, July 23, Thomas Helling, author and professor of surgery at University of Mississippi Medical Center, will present “Sickly Vapors: Disease and Doctoring in the Old South” as part of the History Is Lunch series. Helling’s presentation explores southern doctors’ attitudes toward health and healthcare as African slaves were introduced and The Civil War came to a close. This program will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will also stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel.
