Look Away, Look Away Screening

The documentary Look Away, Look Away will be shown at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums. The documentary covers the intense debate that erupted in 2015 over the Mississippi State Flag.  A Q&A from the audience will follow the screening. The Only Doctor Screening

MDAH will present a screening of The Only Doctor in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums on Sunday, October 15 from 2pm to 4:30pm. The film documents Dr. Karen Kinsell's effort to keep her rural clinic open in Clay County Georgia, one of the poorest counties in the state.

Evening for Mothers

Join us at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, for Evening for Mothers at the Two Mississippi Museums. Visitors are invited for guided tours of the traveling exhibit Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley: Let the World See. The exhibit showcases the incredible journey of Mamie Till-Mobley, a mother who fought tirelessly for justice for her son. You’ll have the chance to connect with other mothers and learn more about the Till family’s story and the lasting impact it had on Mississippi civil rights history. This event is free and open to the public.

Gallery Talk: Emmett Till

Join us at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, for a gallery talk in the Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley: Let the World See exhibit at the Two Mississippi Museums. Mississippi author Linda Williams Jackson will discuss how she transformed the facts surrounding Till's murder in 1955 into an award-winning middle grade novel, Midnight Without a Moon. The 2017 book features a budding teen character, Rose Lee Carter, wrestling with whether to participate in Mississippi's burgeoning civil rights movement.

Gallery Talk: Emmett Till

Join us at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, for a gallery talk in the Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley: Let the World See exhibition at the Two Mississippi Museums. Museum Educator Olivia Williams will discuss the Emmett Till generation and their involvement in the Civil Rights Movement and keeping Emmett Till's life and legacy alive. The Mysterious Circumstances Screening

The documentary Mysterious Circumstances: The Mysterious Death of Meriwether Lewis will be shown at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums. This event will also include an introduction by Clark Richey, the director of the film. A Q&A from the audience will follow the screening. The Fearless 11 Sunday Screening

The documentary The Fearless 11 will be shown at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, at the Two Mississippi Museums. The hour-long documentary showcases the experiences of eleven Black teens who integrated Provine High School in 1965. After the screening, there will be a time for a Q&A from the audience. Family Days at the Two Mississippi Museums

Come visit the Two Mississippi Museums every Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. in February for activities designed for our youngest visitors. In honor of Black History Month, families are invited to participate in hands-on art activities, guided gallery experiences, and opportunities for families to explore stories of Black Mississippians featured in both museums.  Two Mississippi Museum Store Holiday Open House

The Mississippi Museum store will host a Holiday Open House at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, to celebrate the upcoming holiday season.  The event is free to the public. There will be a 10 percent discount on all merchandise during the open house, and museum members will receive a 20 percent discount on store items. 

“We’re excited to host this holiday open house because this will create a wonderful mix of food, conversation, and relationship building right in the heart of our two museums,” said Pamela D.C. Junior, director of the Two Mississippi Museums.

The event will feature a complimentary lunch prepared by Chef Nick Wallace and will include some familiar favorites from the Nissan Cafe by Nick Wallace such as Mississippi gumbo and shrimp and grits. Wallace will also prepare a selection of finger foods for visitors to sample from 2 to 4 p.m.

Other activities include food and beverage samplings from Mississippi vendors, artist and baker meet-and-greet opportunities, light music, and complimentary gift packaging.  

The Mississippi Museum Store offers one of the state’s finest collections of folk art, local handmade crafts, pottery, jewelry, and books by and about Mississippians. Find unique holiday gifts for everyone on your list this year at the Mississippi Museum Store.

Admission to the museums is not required. The Mississippi Museum Store at the Two Mississippi Museums is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The museums are  free of charge on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. are located at 222 North Street in Jackson.
