The Harvest Screening

Join us for a screening of The Harvest at 6 p.mon Thursday, August 31, at the Two Mississippi Museums. Directed by Sam Pollard and Douglas Blackmon, the documentary tells the story of the fight to integrate schools in Leland, Mississippi, during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. A Q&A with Douglas Blackmon will follow the screening. Doors open at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m., courtesy of the Mississippi Humanities Council. Looking to expand your volunteer experience or share your interest in Mississippi history? Come to the Volunteer Open House on Thursday, August 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums. Whether you volunteer regularly or want to get started, come meet our staff, discover new volunteer opportunities, and learn more about incredible resources available at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH). This is a free come-and-go event. Light refreshments will be provided.

African American Genealogy Workshop: County Records

Learn how to use county records to trace your genealogy! Joyce Dixon-Lawson will present African American Genealogy Workshop: County Records at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, at the William F. Winter Archives & History Building. This workshop will demonstrate how to trace African American genealogy using county records such as wills (probate and estate records), deeds, and marriage records. Space is limited for this program.

Gallery Talk: Solidarity Now

Join us for a gallery talk at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, at the Two Mississippi Museums. Professor Ellen Meacham will present from her book Delta Epiphany: Robert F. Kennedy in Mississippi that details Robert Kennedy's visit to the Delta in 1967. This talk will be in conjunction with the Solidarity Now! 1968 Poor People's Campaign traveling exhibit, which was organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and supported by the CVS Health Foundation. This event was made possible through sponsorship from the Mississippi Humanities Council.
