These three Freedom Summer volunteers were murdered on June 21, 1964, for their efforts in registering African Americans to vote during the Civil Rights Movement. Join us for Juneteenth Jubilee at the Two Mississippi Museums! Sponsored by Ingalls Shipbuilding, this evening program will celebrate Black empowerment and community, featuring a variety of activities in collaboration with Briarwood Arts Center. The festivity will include Juneteenth-themed crafts, card and yard games, Juneteenth-themed tours at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., a line dance workshop with Aaron Honeysuckle at 5:30 p.m., and performances by The Master's Touch DrumLine, LLC, Jasmine JT Thomas, Clifton Cotten, and the Anderson United Methodist Church youth dance ministry.

Freedom School Camp is for students heading into sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, where campers will deepen their understanding of the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi and its impact on the world through stories of local heroes in their communities. Students will visit historic sites in Jackson and take a trip to the Mississippi Delta.
Freedom School Camp is held for two consecutive weeks, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on week days, July 15-26, with a registration fee of $150 per student for the two-week camp. Lunch and two snacks are provided daily.
Join us for Discovery Week Camp at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians, 9 a.m. to noon, June 3–7, 2024 and June 10–14, 2024. Campers will walk nature trails, play games like Chunkey and archery, and create unique crafts to take home. Native American demonstrators will also provide special presentations.
Join us for the July edition of the Summer Music Series, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, at the Two Mississippi Museums with Ralph Miller, a musician from Vicksburg known for his distinct, acoustic sound in his country and folk music performances.
History Exploration Camp is for students entering into fourth and fifth grades. Campers will explore themes such as archaeology, architecture, transportation, civil rights, and music. In addition to exhibits at the Two Mississippi Museums, students will enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the collections, special guest speakers, and visits to other historic sites in Jackson. History Exploration Camp sessions are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Session 1 happening June 10-14 and Session 2 happening June 24-28.
Join us for a screening of James 'Super Chikan' Johnson: A Life in Blues at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 16. The film celebrates the life of James 'Super Chikan' Johnson, whose musical career has touched those living in the South and beyond. This film delves into how Southern culture has influenced Johnson, and how his own unique spin of blues music reflects his life in the South. The run time for this film is 79 minutes. Following the screening, a Q&A session will feature director Mark Rankin and James 'Super Chikan' Johnson.
