Enjoy our History Happy Hour at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, at the Two Mississippi Museums! The event will feature free admission, the band “Epic Funk Brass Band”, local food trucks, food from Nick Wallace Culinary, and a cash bar. Guests can also join interactive flash tours through the museums to learn about the history of music in Mississippi. Two Mississippi Museum members receive a complimentary drink. Interested in starting your journey in genealogy? MDAH Historic Research Specialist William Thompson will lead a genealogy workshop at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at the William F. Winter Archives & History Building. This workshop is geared towards researchers who are interested in learning about genealogical research or reevaluating their existing research. Featuring a conversation with author Eddie S. Glaude Jr. and Pamela D.C. Junior, former director of the Two Mississippi Museums, the Eddie S. Glaude Jr. Book Signing and Discussion will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums. Glaude, author of We Are the Leaders We Have Been Looking For, and Junior will explore the book’s discussion on how everyday people can become pivotal leaders in their communities.
Join us for a Writing With Nature Workshop at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 19, at the Eudora Welty House & Garden (EWHG). Tammy Greer, folk artist, native plant advocate, and The University of Southern Mississippi professor, will lead a guided nature walk through the Belhaven Mountain Bike trails highlighting native, culturally significant plants, and the stories behind them.
Join us for a screening of Hollow Tree at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums. This documentary follows the story of three teenagers coming of age in their homeplace of Louisiana. Their different perspectives—as Indigenous, White, and Angolan young women—shape their story of the climate crisis when they first witnessed the Mississippi River’s increased engineering, stumps of cypress trees, and polluting refineries.
Join us for the Heirloom Plant Sale at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Eudora Welty House & Garden (EWHG). Run by volunteers, the event directly benefits the Welty Garden and is offered in partnership with the Eudora Welty Foundation. This year, EWHG is debuting certified clones of Eudora Welty's original camellias. Urban Foxes will be onsite selling coffee and snacks. Join us for Stickball and Games at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 22, at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians. This event will consist of a stickball game demonstration and game stations where visitors can play chunkey and marbles. Stickball is a traditional game of the native people of the Eastern Woodlands and is played in a variety of ways depending on the tribal nation.
