Trick or Treat at the Two Mississippi Museums

Join us for Trick or Treat at the Two Mississippi Museums on Saturday, October 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Discover mysteries from Mississippi's past with our scavenger hunt, trick or treat, and craft stations placed throughout the building for spirited holiday fun. Children are invited to participate in our “Two Mississippi Museums Monster March” Halloween costume parade at 11 a.m. Admission to the museums is free during the event.

Un(re)solved: Conversation with Jerry Mitchell and Margaret Burnham

Join us for a conversation with Margaret Burnham, founder and director of Northeastern University School of Law’s Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project, and Jerry Mitchell, renowned investigative reporter, in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums on Tuesday, October 19, at noon.  They will discuss the civil rights cold cases highlighted in Un(re)solved—the PBS Frontline traveling augmented-reality exhibit now open at the Two Mississippi Museums.

Quilting: A Legacy of Storytelling

Join us on Tuesday, October 12, at the Two Mississippi Museums for an exploration of quilting and storytelling with curator Mary Lohrenz and quilter Tammy McGrew. Inspired by the artwork in the Un(re)solved exhibit, Lohrenz will discuss master quilter Hystercine Rankin’s influence on narrative quilting today, and McGrew will discuss the quilting process and techniques.

One Writer's Garden Ten-Year Anniversary

On Tuesday, October 12, the Eudora Welty House & Garden will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the publication of One Writer's Garden by retired Welty Garden curator Susan Haltom. An outdoor book reading and discussion will be held in her honor. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets to this event. Copies of Haltom's book will be available for purchase at the Eudora Welty House Gift Shop.

Yoga in the Welty Garden

MDAH education specialist and certified yoga instructor Jennifer Rose will lead free yoga classes in the Welty Garden on Tuesdays at 7 a.m. Guests should bring their own mats, towels, water bottles, and wear comfortable clothing. Guests will be required to socially distance themselves and wear face masks when not on the mat. 

American Reckoning Preview

Join us for a sneak peek of the new PBS FRONTLINE documentary American Reckoning featuring a conversation with co-directors Brad Lichtenstein and Yoruba Richen on Thursday, October 7, at 6 p.m. at the Two Mississippi Museums. Ronnie Agnew of Mississippi Public Broadcasting will moderate the discussion. Guests are invited to tour the PBS FRONTLINE Un(re)solved special exhibit prior to the program. Face masks and social distancing guidelines are required.
