Preserving the Past: Mississippi's Archaeology Landmarks

Join us for a family-friendly archaeology expo in celebration of Historic Preservation Month on the Old Capitol Museum Lawn featuring a hands-on digging and excavation site, atlatl and flint knapping demonstrations presented by archaeologists, artifact washing workshops, and craft stations. Bucket Buds Day With Little Bluestem Farm

Join us on an adventure with nature at the Eudora Welty House & Garden for Bucket Buds Day with Little Bluestem Farm! Children four to eight years of age will engage in hands-on nature activities such as flower arranging, nature journaling, and a leaf study from Little Bluestem Farm’s Bucket Buds educational subscription program. Attendees will also take a guided walkthrough of the Welty Garden. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during this event. Registration fee is $15 per child and space is limited. There is no fee for parents or guardians to attend.

R.E.A.D. (Read, Engage, and Discover)

Children and parents are invited to the R.E.A.D. (Read, Engage, and Discover) summer enrichment program at the Two Mississippi Museums on Friday, May 28, at 11 a.m. This first edition will feature a book reading and discussion of Carole Boston Weatherford's "Voice of Freedom: Fannie Lou Hamer" by guest speaker Rukia Lumumba of the People’s Advocacy Institute. Children will engage in a hands-on activity following the reading. This event is free and will be held in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium. Face masks and social distancing guidelines are required.
