MLK Weekend Celebration

Join us at the Two Mississippi Museums to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on Tuesday, January 21, on the National Day of Racial Healing. Lunch will be provided before two panel discussions—one celebrating John Perkins' contribution to civil rights and racial healing and the other exploring the role of philanthropy in community transformation. This program marking the National Day of Racial Healing, an initiative spearheaded by the W.K.

MLK Night of Culture

Join us at the Two Mississippi Museums to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 20. This free admission day, sponsored by FedEx, will include a performance by New Horizon Church Children’s Ensemble at 10 a.m. and gallery talks by Freedom Rider Hezekiah Watkins at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. The day will also include MLK Night of Culture at 6 p.m., hosted by Vicksburg native Alexis Noble.

MLK Free Weekend

Join us at the Two Mississippi Museums to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on Saturday, January 18. This free admission day, sponsored by FedEx, will include a Voting Rights Act tour by museum staff at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and a gallery talk by Freedom Rider Hezekiah Watkins at noon in the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. Welty at Home Virtual Book Club

On Mondays at noon, the Eudora Welty House & Garden will host live book discussions of Jesmyn Ward's 2017 novel, Sing, Unburied, Sing as part of its Welty at Home Virtual Book Club program. Welty's friend and biographer Suzanne Marrs will co-lead the discussions with Kemeshia Swanson, professor of English and African American Studies at Mississippi State University. Sunday Screening of Always a Winner: Roy Curry, A Quarterback Ahead of His Time

Join us for a screening of Always a Winner: Roy Curry, A Quarterback Ahead of His Time at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 26, in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums. Directed by Seth Schwartz, the one-hour film tells the story of Roy Curry who grew up as the son of sharecroppers in Lula, Mississippi. He played quarterback for his high school in Clarksdale, then at Jackson State University, and went on to play two seasons as a wide receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. Welty Wednesdays

Join the Eudora Welty House & Garden (EWHG) for Welty Wednesdays beginning Wednesday, January 8. In honor of 1119 Pinehurst Street's 100-year anniversary, free admission will be offered every Wednesday, in addition to the long-standing tradition of free admission on the 13th of each month honoring Welty’s April 13 birthday. History Is Lunch: Charles Bolton, "Mississippi and World War II"

At noon on Wednesday, March 12, Charles Bolton, author and professor of history at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, will explore the effects of World War II economic and military mobilization in the Deep South, as part of the History Is Lunch series. The program, "Mississippi and World War II," will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will also stream live on the YouTube channel.

Tracing Your African American Ancestors Genealogy Workshop

Learn how to start researching your family history! Join our genealogy workshop on Tracing Your African American Ancestors at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 15, in the orientation room on the first floor of the William F. Winter Archives and History Building. Led by Joyce Dixon-Lawson, this workshop will teach participants how to research African American genealogy through resources available in MDAH's archival collections. Register here.

Stories by the Fire

Join us for Stories by the Fire at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, January 25, at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians. Amy Bluemel of the Chickasaw Nation will share traditional stories with visitors.
