Community Solidarity Day

Join us at noon on Sunday, September 17, for Community Solidarity Day at the Two Mississippi Museums. Inspired by the mission of the Poor People's Campaign and Resurrection City of 1968, Community Solidarity Day features an afternoon of health screenings by the Hinds County Comprehensive Health Center, a cooking demonstration by Nick Wallace, a yoga class, and other activities that coincide with our traveling exhibit, Solidarity Now! 1968 Poor People's Campaign. Free Admission: Hezekiah Watkins' Birthday

In celebration of civil rights veteran Hezekiah Watkins' birthday, the Two Mississippi Museums will host a free admission day on Friday, September 1. Visitors are invited to listen to Watkins' story of being a Freedom Rider at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the This Little Light of Mine gallery, purchase a signed copy of his book Pushing Forward, and enjoy a cupcake in honor of his birthday. The Harvest Screening

Join us for a screening of The Harvest at 6 p.mon Thursday, August 31, at the Two Mississippi Museums. Directed by Sam Pollard and Douglas Blackmon, the documentary tells the story of the fight to integrate schools in Leland, Mississippi, during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. A Q&A with Douglas Blackmon will follow the screening. Doors open at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m., courtesy of the Mississippi Humanities Council. Volunteer Open House

Looking to expand your volunteer experience or share your interest in Mississippi history? Come to the Volunteer Open House on Thursday, August 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums. Whether you volunteer regularly or want to get started, come meet our staff, discover new volunteer opportunities, and learn more about incredible resources available at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH). This is a free come-and-go event. Light refreshments will be provided.

Gallery Talk: Solidarity Now

Join us for a gallery talk at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, at the Two Mississippi Museums. Professor Ellen Meacham will present from her book Delta Epiphany: Robert F. Kennedy in Mississippi that details Robert Kennedy's visit to the Delta in 1967. This talk will be in conjunction with the Solidarity Now! 1968 Poor People's Campaign traveling exhibit, which was organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and supported by the CVS Health Foundation.

It's in the Voices Screening

Join us for a screening of It's in the Voices at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, at the Two Mississippi Museums. The documentary tells the story of the 1970 oral history project in Washington County that examined topics regarding black educators in the Mississippi Delta and the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. History Happy Hour: Medicine

Enjoy our History Happy Hour at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, at the Two Mississippi Museums! The event includes free admission, live entertainment, refreshments from Hal & Mal's and Nick Wallace Culinary, and a cash bar. Guests can also join interactive flash tours through the museums to learn about the history of medicine in Mississippi.

Emmett Till Free Admission Day

In celebration of Emmett Till’s birthday, the Two Mississippi Museums will host a free admission day featuring guided tours at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25. Gallery Talk: Solidarity Now

Join us at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, at the Two Mississippi Museums for a Solidary Now! 1968 Poor People's Campaign gallery talk. Drew Gardner, a museum educator, will explain how the Poor People's Campaign brought national attention to the associated problems of poverty and hunger. Rebecca Butz, a registered dietitian at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Ambulatory EversCare Clinic, will explain how the clinic—named for civil rights leader Myrlie Evers—works to improve patients' health by addressing social needs such as food insecurity.
